The Daily Donut Day 117- Ruthie's Chocolate Peanut Butter Frosted Donut

RUTHIE'S BETHANY BAKERY
GARFIELD PARKWAY
BETHANY BEACH, DE 19930
302-539-1119

You know I love the Homer Simpson quote, "Is there anything a donut can't do?!!" Well, we just proved it again!
Another thing a donut can do:
HELP YOU MEET NEW FRIENDS!

It all began when Cindy Lou, looking for a parking place, found Ruthie's Bethany Bakery(see Donut Day 110) in downtown Bethany and brought me a delicious coconut donut. We all got a sweet surprise when Bobby, Ruthie's husband, stopped by BRF(http://www.bethanyresortfurnishings.com/) on Saturday with TWO boxes of donuts and baked treats! Great donuts, cinnamon rolls, and blueberry buckle! You made our day!

Bobby had barely made it through the door at BRF before I was sampling his donuts! Thanks Bobby & Ruthie!

RUTHIE'S CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER FROSTED DONUT

Ruthie makes a delicious light cake donut. This donut is soft and fresh with a thick layer of peanut butter topping and a nice drizzle of chocolate. I just had to take a big bite! YUM!

This is just a sample of what you may find when you stop by Ruthie's Bethany Bake Shop on Garfield Parkway in Downtown Bethany Beach(http://www.townofbethanybeach.com/). Ruthie's offers more than just donuts! Check them out on Facebook or join Bobby watching the Sunday morning sunrise from the Bethany Boardwalk by clicking http://www.bethanycam.com/.

Thanks again Ruthie & Bobby!

The Daily Donut Day 116- Dicky's Birthday Pebble Beach Hole-in-One Donut

Dicky is the husband and partner of Kimmerly, our owner at BRF(http://www.bethanyresortfurnishings.com/). September 24th is Dicky's birthday and it is rumoured that he has reached the speed limit(55). I don't think it will slow him down one bit!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICKY!

One of Dicky's favorite activities is Jet-Ski Wave Jumping! Unfortunately, I didn't have an actual picture of Dicky jumping waves, so I am using this picture as an example. Dicky is usually about twice the distance out of the water as shown here! WOW!
Dicky is also a "scratch" golfer which means if you play golf with him, you will probably lose, but you WILL have a great time and probably learn something during the process! I decided to honor Dicky with a golf inspired donut, and if your are going to create your own donut, then Fractured Prune is the place to go!

The Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California(http://www.pebblebeach.com/) is host to the U.S. Open(http://www.usopen.com/) and the inspiration for Dicky's birthday donut!

FRACTURED PRUNE PEBBLE BEACH HOLE-IN-ONE DONUT

My friends at the Fractured Prune at 1303 S Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury, MD(410-546-9899) created the Pebble Beach Donut. This donut is the hot fresh "FP" cake donut we all know and love, dipped in honey glaze and then topped with cinnamon sugar making it the "OC Sand." When you add the chocolate chip "pebbles" it becomes the "Pebble Beach Donut." I added the golf ball giving Dicky a hole-in-one at Pebble Beach! Thanks Fractured Prune! Check out your local "FP" at http://www.fracturedprune.com/.
Happy Birthday Dicky!

The Daily Donut Day 115- Wingnuts Pumpkin Donut

September 23rd is the first day of Fall/Autumn though in this area you would not know it! In the 90's again! Hot! Hot! Hot!
I do love the crisp Fall mornings, the Fall colors, and the Fall DONUTS!

WINGNUTS PUMPKIN CAKE DONUT

Wingnuts Donut Shop at 1207 Mt Herman Rd in Salisbury(410-546-4780) is ready for Fall. They have Fall decorations and Fall DONUTS!
This Pumpkin Cake Donut is sweet and spicy! You taste pumpkin in every bite! The cake donut is dipped in honey glaze to add to the sweetness and you can get this donut with or without the vanilla frosting drizzle. You know I would never turn down a vanilla frosting drizzle!
This donut is only available for a limited time, so you better stop by Wingnuts and grab yours before I eat them all!

The Daily Donut Day 114- Hockers/G&E Vanilla Frosted Cake Donut

HOCKERS/G&E SUPER MARKET
30244 CEDAR NECK RD
OCEANVIEW, DE 19970
302-539-9662

The Vanilla Frosted Cake Donut from Hockers/ G&E is one of the many donuts made in the Hockers Market Bake Shop everyday! The busy Hockers bakers also make birthday cakes, cinnamon rolls, and breads and buns of all types!
This cake donut is a sister to the Devils Food with vanilla frosting from Donut Day 112. The vanilla frosting is the same, but that is all. The yellow cake has a completely different flavor than the devils food. Both are good! I can't decide, going to take more research.
You can do some research of your own at either of the two Hockers/G&E locations, Cedar Neck Rd in Oceanview or at the corner of Rt17 and Rt26 in Clarksville. Check them out at www.hockersmarkets.com

The Daily Donut Day 113- Dunkin Donuts Cinnamon Sugar Raised Donut

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUNKIN DONUTS!

DUNKIN DONUTS CINNAMON SUGAR RAISED DONUT

The Sugar Raised donut is one of the oldest varieties of donuts available. It is usually the basic yeast raised donut tossed with sugar to add sweetness. Great basic donut! What makes this donut different is the addition of the exotic spice CINNAMON!

Cinnamon or "sweet wood" is one of our oldest and most loved spices, second only to salt. For centuries cinnamon was surrounded by mystery with its production kept secret from the public. Cinnamon sticks are the dried inner bark of the cinnamon plant. Over the years, cinnamon has been used to cure everything from bad breath to the common cold. It is said that cinnamon is an aid to digestion and the oil even makes a great mosquito repellent. WOW! What a spice!

SUPER CINNAMON!

This is what a Cinnamon Sugar Raised Donut looks like after Keithaccino has taken a bite! Wow! Big mouth! I am surprised there is any donut left! This donut was made by my friends at the "DD" at 908 S Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury, but you can check out your local "DD" at www.dunkindonuts.com!

The Daily Donut Day 112- Hocker's/G&E Vanilla Frosted Devil's Food Donut

Hocker's G &E Super Market at 30244 Cedar Neck Rd in Oceanview, DE(302-539-9662).

HOCKER'S/G&E VANILLA FROSTED DEVIL'S FOOD DONUT

The first time someone ate the rich dark chocolate used to make this donut, they commented it was the opposite of the light white of Angel Food! Soon after, this rich dark chocolate became known as Devil's Food. It must be if it is the opposite of Angel Food, right?!!
Hocker's/G&E makes this rich chocolate cake donut fresh every day! The thick sweet vanilla frosting is the perfect complement to the deep dark rich chocolate. This is my favorite kind of cake! Very similar to the "red velvet" my Mom Mom Phillips made years ago for my birthday!
I would share a bite of this delicious donut, but unfortunately mine is all gone. Stop by one of the two Hocker's/G&E locations in Oceanview or Clarksville, DE to get your own or see if they are offering any discount coupons at www.hockersmarkets.com.

HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY!
EMILY & LINDSAY

My beautiful twin daughters, Emily and Lindsay turn 25 on September 19th! Amazing, the time has gone by sooo fast! I am incredibly proud of both of you! You have taught me more in your 25 years than I could ever hope to teach you! I love you even more than donuts! Thanks Girls!

LINDSAY, EMILY, AND SHELBY

For Emily and Lindsay's birthday we went back to the Tokyo Steakhouse at 2745 N Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury, MD(410-860-0078). We had sooo much fun last time, this time we came in full force. I think we had a total of fourteen. We had two chefs and two hibachis going just to keep us all fed!

Pop Pop Nicky and Caroline are ready to eat! Trent and Nicholas are still checking out the menu.

Grandma, you are supposed to catch the shrimp in your mouth, not your hand!

Nathan is an expert with those chopsticks!

I baked the girls a GIANT DONUT for their birthday cake! What else would you expect!
With the help of my friends at the FRACTURED PRUNE at 1303 S Salisbury Blvd(410-546-9899) we designed a special TWIN /DOUBLE DONUT!

FRACTURED PRUNE OC SAND/POWDERED SUGAR TWOFER

What better donut to celebrate the twins birthday than a donut that is really two in one?!! We took the hot fresh Fractured Prune cake donut- dipped it in honey glaze, then coated it with cinnamon sugar creating the legendary O.C. Sand we all know an love! Next, we dipped the hot OC Sand donut in powdered sugar creating a Half and Half Donut. One donut with two great flavors for two wonderful young ladies!

I think they liked it!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRLS!!
LOVE YOU!

The Daily Donut Day 110- Ruthie's Vanilla Iced Coconut Donut

You can file this one under Homer Simpson's quote: "Is there anything a donut can't do!??"
Another thing a donut can do: Find you a parking space!
My friend and co-worker at BRF(www.bethanyresortfurnishings.com) Cindy Lou was picking up lunch for everyone from our friend Rick's Baja Beach House Grill(www.bajabeachhouse.com) and could not find a place to park in downtown Bethany. She decided to turn around and head back up the street and when she pulled into a parking lot to turn around she found RUTHIE'S BETHANY BAKERY, a place to park, and a DONUT for me!!

RUTHIE'S VANILLA ICED COCONUT DONUT

This "lucky" donut is a light yeast raised donut with delicious vanilla frosting and topped with crisp coconut! I cannot wait to stop back by Ruthie's for more flavors! You know my saying,"One donut leads to more donuts!" Check out Ruthie's Bethany Bakery(.302-539-1119) on Facebook or stop the bakery on Garfield Parkway in Downtown Bethany Beach, DE.(www.townofbethanybeach.com)

The Daily Donut Day 109- Krispy Kreme Raspberry Filled

Krispy Kreme is the first name in DONUTS! Unfortunately, we do not have a Krispy Kreme factory nearby. The closest is Rockville, MD(see Donut Day 1). We will be making more road trips, but fortunately the local Harris Teeter Market at 695 Bethany Loop in Bethany Beach, DE(302-539-7370) stocks a nice selection of fresh Krispy Kreme Donuts! Check them out at www.harristeeter.com.

KRISPY KREME RASPBERRY FILLED DONUT

This yeast raised donut is soft fresh and FILLED with sweet tangy raspberry jam! The Krispy Kreme glaze is sweet and flaky- the perfect match for the raspberry filling! I could eat these all day! Find your local Krispy Kreme at www.krispykreme.com. Find your local factory and clock in!

The Daily Donut Day 108- Blaine's Birthday Donut

          HAPPY
       BIRTHDAY !
        BLAINE

Thursday September 16th is our nephew Blaine's birthday. This year Blaine is 10 and picked Tokyo Steakhouse at 2745 N Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury(410-860-0078) for his birthday dinner. Tokyo Steakhouse is fun because the chefs cook your food Hibachi Style right at your table, doing tricks with knives and fire, throwing food everywhere! It's like having dinner at the circus! The chefs also give everyone a "famous name". Blaine was "Justin Bieber", Carter "Harry Potter", Chloe "Hanna Montana", Shelby "Curly Girlie", I was "Ricky Bobby", and Mel and Aunt Julie were both called "Pretty Lady." Much fun, they even toss shrimp for you to catch in your mouth!

Watch out- HOT plate!

FRACTURED PRUNE MAPLE BACON BLAINE-O

For Blaine's birthday we wanted to do something a little different. Blaine really loved the Maple Bacon Longjohns from Cops & Donuts(see Donut Day 69), so we decided to do our own local version with the help of our local Fractured Prune at 1303 S Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury(410-546-9899). Melissa is our local "Bacon Queen"(she puts it in everything), so I enlisted her help in this production. Thanks Honey! Love you!
Mel had our friends at "FP" create their standard cake donut with a maple glaze and the she piled on the bacon crumbles! Yum- maple bacony delicious! Check out your local "FP" at http://www.fracturedprune.com/.

I think The Mason Clan had FUN!!

The Daily Donut Day 107- WaWa Vanilla Frosted Donut w/ Fall Sprinkles

The leaves are changing color, school is back in session, the air is a little cooler- I guess Summer is over. Even the donut shops are starting to offer Fall seasonal donuts. The sprinkles on the WaWa Frosted have changed from the red, white and blue of Summer to the orange, yellow, and brown of Fall. Taste?

Still good!!
The WaWa Vanilla Frosted is the light and airy yeast raised donut with a nice schmear of vanilla frosting and, because it is Fall, the yellow, orange and brown sprinkles. Pretty and tasty! This guy is from the WaWa at 2740 N Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury(410-548-7946), but you can find your closest WaWa at www.wawa.com.
One good thing about Fall- Football shaped donuts! Coming soon!

The Daily Donut Day 106- Touch of Italy Eclair

NATIONAL CREME FILLED      DONUT DAY!

Got a text from my sis, Amy Lynn, yesterday letting me know that today was National Creme Filled Donut Day. Never heard of that one, so I looked it up. September 14th is known as National Creme filled Donut Day. I could not find any reason why we celebrate creme filled donuts on this day, but I will be the last one to argue over any donut celebration! I just needed to find a creme filled donut!

TOUCH OF ITALY ECLAIR

Our friend, Sandy, is a Landscape Architect, but she works part-time at a great Italian Salumeria and Pasticceria. A Salumeria sells cured meats and a Pasticceria is a pastry shop. So, Touch of Italy is basically a deli and pastry shop, but it is really alot more than that. Touch of Italy has three locations near the beach in Delaware. You can visit them at 33A Baltimore Ave(where Sandy works) in Rehoboth(302-227-1500), 535 Atlantic Ave in Millville(302-539-1355, and soon at 101 2nd St in Lewes. All locations offer a wide selection of foods, from specialty hero sandwiches to delicious Italian pastries! I get hungry just thinking about them!
The Chocolate Frosted Eclair Sandy brought to our house is overflowing with rich sweet creme filling. The eclair is flakier than the average cake or yeast raised donut, but is a perfect complement to the creme filling. I am amazed how such a large pastry can be so light and fresh. The chocolate frosting is literally, the icing on the cake! You cannot bite this eclair without getting creme on your face! YUM!

Emily & Sandy!

Thanks Sandy for bringing the delicious eclair! You can see all the Italian cookies, biscotti, etc Touch of Italy offers and even order some at http://www.touchofitalyde.com/.

DUNKIN DONUTS
         TASTE
THE HARVEST

New  For Fall! Yum!

I found my Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Donut at the "DD" at 409 N. Fruitland Blvd inside the Fruitland Walmart(http://www.walmart.com/) and what a pleasant surprise! The cake donut is spicy and sweet, like a pumpkin pie. The entire donut is dipped in a honey glaze to add even more sweetness. Now we know Fall is here! There is also a Pumpkin and a Pumpkin Latte. I think I will have to try them all! Sad to see Summer go, but if this is what Fall brings, I'm all for it!

This year is Dunkin Donuts 60th Anniversary year! Now that is alot of DONUTS! Check out your local "DD" at http://www.dunkindonuts.com/!

The Daily Donut Day 104- Kitchen Kettle Village Blueberry Fritter

Rachel(see Donut Day 75), my friend and coworker at BRF(http://www.bethanyresortfurnishings.com/) recently visited the Pennsylvania Dutch Country(http://www.padutchcountry.com/) of Southeastern Pennsylvania. While there she stopped into Lancaster, PA, at her former employer, The Sight and Sound Theatre(http://www.sight-sound.com/), for a performance of Joseph and found some Amish Donuts for me at the Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse, PA. Thanks, Rach!

KITCHEN KETTLE VILLAGE BLUEBERRY FRITTER

The Kitchen Kettle Village at 3529 Old Philadelpia Pike in Intercourse, PA(800-732-3538) was started as a canning business in 1954 in the two-car garage of Pat and Bob Burnley. Now Kitchen Kettle is literally, a village, and includes 42 stores and restaurants. You can even sleep over if you want! Check out the website at http://www.kitchenkettle.com/.
The Blueberry Fritter is what I call an Amish Donut. The Amish affectionately call these "Uglies" because the look like a big blob of textured dough. They look beautiful to me! The texture holds the thick glaze on the outside and tickles your tongue with each bite. I just love blueberries, so I knew this fritter would be an instant favorite with me! By the way, Kettle Kitchen does ship across the US so order early and often!
