When you walk into DeVage's Restaurant(see Donut Day 22) at 748 E. Main St. in Salisbury across from The Country House(www.thecountryhouse.com) it is like taking a step back in time. The building was originally, The Polar Bar, one of Salisbury's most loved old time drive-ins and the DeVage's have kept the look and feel of the 50's soda fountains. Cool!
The antique jukebox is there, the black and white checkerboard, and retro accents like the booths and counter stools give you the feeling of Arnold's from Happy Days. You almost expect Richie, Ralph, and Potsie to come running in at any time looking for The Fonz to get them out of some jam.
The Fonz is one of my all-time favorite characters. I even have a Fonzie action figure(not a doll) above my desk, just beside my Evel Knievel action figure. I know The Fonz would approve of the donuts from DeVage's. They have continued to make the donuts that made The Polar Bar a Salisbury legend. The delicious little cake donuts are just the right size. They can be dunked in coffee or gobbled down in just a couple of bites. You can choose from several glaze flavors and toppings. Fonzie would say, "Aaaaayah! They're delish!." The above donut is the honey/vanilla glaze cake. These donuts are so good you can't eat just one! Some one took a bite from one of these donuts and left it shaped like a "C". Maybe it was Mr. or Mrs. "C" or one of the other Cunninghams.
Stop by DeVages, find your counter stool, "sit on it!", and enjoy a Polar Bar donut! Fonzie and I give them two thumbs up!
EAT HAPPY!
