HAPPY DONUT DAY 2013!
My favorite holiday, National Donut Day, was first celebrated in 1938 to honor those Salvation Army Donut Lassies who made donuts for our "Doughboy Soldiers" during World War I. Those hot fresh "circles of love" not only nourished our war weary heroes, but served as a reminder of home served by a friendly smiling face. What a way to start a day!
Many of you already know, Donut Day to me is like Christmas, the 4th of July, and my birthday all rolled into one great day! I love donuts any day, but on National Donut Day they just taste better! Maybe because many donut shops give out FREE DONUTS on this day!
I heard a rumor that Dunkin Donuts was planning to offer a new"Donut Sandwich" this year, so I just had to check it out!
The DD Bacon Egg and Glazed Donut Sandwich
I have a new love! The sweetness of the donut perfectly compliments the savoriness of the egg and bacon. Not too sweet, just right! I liked this sandwich so much that when I got home from work, I loaded up Shelby, and Melissa and headed to out Salisbury DD to get another. It is Donut Day after all!
This time I had the Bacon Egg and Cheese on a French Cruller! De-Lish-Us! I will be back for more!
I think Shelby enjoyed her Boston Cream. It was a nice way to finish off her last day of Kindergarten. Great job Shel!
Remember National Donut Day is always the first Friday in June. Please support your local Salvation Army! I was pleased to receive fresh donuts and warm smiles delivered by my Donut Lassies at the Bethany Beach, DE and Salisbury, MD Dunkin Donuts locations! A modern day "doughboy" ready to face the daily battles of life!
EAT HAPPY!
